Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How much does it cost to use a bike?

A: The bikes are free to use during the hours of operation. We only ask that you leave a valid form of ID with us while you have the bike.

Q: Why do I have to leave my ID?

A: We do not charge anything to use the bike, and we do not collect a security deposit. Bike Pottstown works on the honor system. If you do not return the bike, we will turn your ID over to the Pottstown Police Department.

Q: What if the bike is damaged, or stolen while I have it out?

A: The cyclist is responsible for the bike while it is in use. We understand that some damage may occur, and will not hold the cyclist responsible for minor damage resulting from responsible use. It the bike is returned inoperable, you will be asked to pay for the bike.

Cyclists are responsible for returning the bike in the condition it was issued. If the bike is stolen while you have it, you will be asked to pay for the bike.

Q: Can my son or daughter use a bike?

A: We require that all cyclists are over 16 years of age on the day using the bike. We are not able to insure younger riders.

Q: Is the bike mine to keep?

A: No, we are not giving bikes to residents, we are giving bikes to the community, for the community to use. If you kept the bike, the rest of the community would not be able to use it.

Q: Do I have to wear a helmet?

A: Bike Pottstown promotes safe riding practice, and provides helmets for all cyclists. Cyclists are at risk to injury, and we strongly encourage you to wear a helmet while you use our bikes.

Q: Can I use the bike to do my shopping in town?

A: Of course, Bike Pottstown wants these bikes to be used to replace your car.
